The right firmness level depends on your body weight, your sleeping position and your personal sleeping comfort. As a rule of thumb, lighter people tend to prefer softer mattresses, heavier people medium-firm to firm mattresses. The decisive factor is that the spine lies straight and the shoulders and pelvis can sink in comfortably. Find out more about firmness here.

Mattress finder: How to find the right mattress
Choosing the right mattress depends above all on your body, your preferred sleeping position and your personal sense of comfort. A well-adjusted mattress should support your spine, relieve pressure points, suit your weight and sleeping position, be breathable and ensure a comfortable sleeping environment. Regardless of whether you sleep on your back, side or stomach. The mattress should also impress with its high-quality workmanship and durable materials.
Tips for buying a mattress- More about special features such as firmness levels & sleeping positions
If you're looking for the perfect mattress, there are a few important points to consider. Firmness levels are crucial to finding the right comfort and optimum support for your body. From soft to extra firm, there are a variety of options that can suit your personal preferences. Your sleeping position is just as important when deciding on the right mattress. Make sure the mattress supports the areas you need the most, such as your shoulders and hips. Remember that a good mattress can not only improve your sleep, but also your well-being in everyday life.

Pay attention to the weight & firmness level when buying a mattress
The firmness level of a mattress determines how much support your body receives. Firm mattresses offer a particularly high level of stability and are suitable for people who prefer a firm H4 sleeping surface. Medium-firm H3 mattresses are an all-rounder and adapt to many sleeping habits and are also the most commonly sold. Soft H2 mattresses conform more closely to the body and can be more comfortable for side sleepers because they allow the shoulders and hips to sink in deeper.
Which firmness level is right for you also depends on your body weight.
- Firmness level H2 (soft) & H3 (medium firm): lighter people up to 90 kg
- Firmness level H4 (firm): heavier people over 90 kg
For the majority of mattresses, you have to decide on a firmness level. You can simply turn Träumeland mattresses over to test a different firmness level.

Consider the sleeping position
When buying a mattress , it is important to consider your sleeping position. Do you mostly sleep on your back, side or stomach? Mattresses that offer good support for the spine are suitable for back sleepers, while side sleepers often benefit from a softer mattress that reduces pressure on the shoulders and hips. Stomach sleepers should look for a slightly firmer mattress to prevent the body from sinking in too deeply. Your sleeping position determines which mattress can offer you the best comfort and support. Make sure that the mattress adapts to your personal needs so that you can sleep restfully every night.
-
Side sleepers: Soft to medium-firm for shoulders/hips
-
Back sleeper: Medium-firm for spinal support
-
Stomach sleeper: Rather firm for a stable position
Finding the right mattress size for your bed
The most popular mattress size is the 90×200 cm mattress. It is suitable for singles, but also for a 180 cm wide double bed in a double version. Our Träumeland mattresses are available in different sizes, depending on your sleeping behavior and space requirements:
- Mattress 80x200 cm, Mattress 90x200 cm, Mattress 100x200 cm for single beds
- Mattress 140x200 cm for small double beds for people with plenty of space
- Mattress 160x200 cm, mattress 180x200 cm for double beds and couples
Many couples choose two single mattresses to optimally cover different needs.
Buying mattresses in special sizes and extra lengths
Mattresses should have a little space at the head end and foot end. If you are over 1.80 m tall, an extra length makes sense. However, most conventional bed frames are suitable for mattress lengths of 200 cm and older models for 190 cm.
Mattress care - tips for long-lasting enjoyment
To ensure that your mattress lasts a long time, you should turn and rotate it regularly, use a mattress protector, air your bedroom regularly and clean stains directly. This will keep your mattress fresh and comfortable for longer
- Regular turning: you should turn the mattress about every 6 months, i.e. swap the head and foot so that it wears out immediately.
- Wash mattress covers: For more hygiene, especially for allergy sufferers, it is advisable to wash the covers more often.
- Tapping and vacuuming the mattress: if you suffer from house dust allergies, it is advisable to tap and vacuum the mattress once a month.
Important: A mattress should be replaced after 7-10 years, although the lifespan can of course be longer for particularly high-quality mattresses.

Mattress trial & trial sleep
After you have purchased your mattress, we offer you a 60-night sleep trial so that you can test your mattress in your familiar surroundings. If it doesn't feel right, you can simply return it.

Frequently asked questions about buying a mattress
The right mattress size depends on your height, the space available in your bedroom and your sleeping habits. If you sleep alone, a width of 90 or 100 cm is often sufficient. For couples, 160, 180 or 200 cm is ideal. In terms of length, the mattress should be slightly longer than your height. This gives you enough space to stretch out comfortably. Also make sure that the mattress fits well in your bed frame.
At Träumeland, we also offer a wide range of children's mattresses (90x200 cm) and baby mattresses (70x140 cm and 60x120 cm). If you are looking for a different size, we also offer selected models in special sizes.
There are different types of mattresses, and the choice depends on your personal preferences and sleeping habits. Here are some common mattress types:
Innerspring mattresses: They provide good support and are often inexpensive.
Cold foam mattresses: These are lightweight and offer good point elasticity and lying comfort. Perfect for any sleeping position and, with the right ventilation, ideal for frequent sweaters.
Latex mattresses: They are elastic and adapt well to the body. Particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. The disadvantage here is that they change depending on the season and temperature.
You can find out more about the different types of mattress in our mattress finder.
Our mattresses are rolled and vacuum-packed for transportation reasons. To allow the materials to unfold optimally after unpacking, we recommend that you do not store the mattress in a rolled state for too long.
Our recommendation:
A rolled mattress should be stored in its packaging or rolled state for a maximum of 3 months.
If the mattress is stored for much longer, the foam core may not unfold completely or only very slowly after unpacking. As a result, the mattress may temporarily or permanently not fully regain its original shape.
Our tip:
Open the mattress as soon as possible after purchase and give it sufficient time to fully unfold after unpacking. As a rule, the mattress will reach its final shape within a few days.
