Frequently asked questions and answers about children's bed linen
Children's bedding can generally be used from the time your child sleeps in their own crib. (approximately from 12 months)
Why only from 1 year old?
- For babies under 1 year, it is recommended not to use blankets or pillows to reduce the risk of overheating and sudden infant death syndrome. Here, one should rather use a sleeping bag.
From about 1 year, when your child:
- Can turn and move freely by itself
- No longer needs to be tightly covered
- Usually sleeps in a crib
Then children's bedding (small blanket + small pillow) is suitable. Nevertheless, it is advisable to use a baby sleeping bag or a sleeping bag with feet for as long as possible, as it is simply safer.
Tips for the right bed linen:
- Breathable materials (preferably cotton)
- Light blankets, no heavy down comforters
- Flat pillows, not too high pillows, and pillows only from about 1.5–2 years old
- For toddlers in a crib (approximately 1–5 years old), bedding in the size: 100×135 cm is the standard and usually ideal.
- When your child is bigger and has switched to the floor bed or is about to, then bedding in 135×200 cm (in Austria 140×200 cm) is suitable.
Important: It's best to not only consider the age but also the bed size or mattress length/your existing bed. The bedding should match the bed size so that it is neither too small nor oversized.
Children's bed linen should be changed approximately every 1–2 weeks.
In some situations more often, for example when:
your child sweats heavily: weekly
- it is sick (fever, cold, stomach flu): immediately after subsiding / every 2–3 days
- something goes wrong (diaper leaks, spit-up, etc.): immediately change
- Allergies or asthma present: 1x per week recommended
Pillowcases can be changed a bit more frequently, as children often drool or sweat with their heads.

- Material: Soft, breathable, free of harmful substances
- Size: suitable for the bed size
- Season: light or warming quality
- Safety: no hard buttons, sharp zippers, or rough seams
