The right firmness level depends on your body weight, your sleeping position and your personal sleeping comfort. As a rule of thumb, lighter people tend to prefer softer mattresses, heavier people medium-firm to firm mattresses. The decisive factor is that the spine lies straight and the shoulders and pelvis can sink in comfortably. Find out more about firmness here.

Mattress Finder: Which Mattress Is Right for Me?
Choosing the right mattress depends primarily on your body, your preferred sleeping position, and your personal comfort preferences. A well-matched mattress should support your spine, relieve pressure points, suit your weight and sleeping position, be breathable, and ensure a comfortable sleeping environment. It doesn’t matter whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach. In addition, the mattress should impress with high-quality craftsmanship and durable materials.
Tips for buying a mattress- More about special features such as firmness levels & sleeping positions
If you're looking for the perfect mattress, there are a few important points to consider. Firmness levels are crucial to finding the right comfort and optimum support for your body. From soft to extra firm, there are a variety of options that can suit your personal preferences. Your sleeping position is just as important when deciding on the right mattress. Make sure the mattress supports the areas you need the most, such as your shoulders and hips. Remember that a good mattress can not only improve your sleep, but also your well-being in everyday life.

When Buying a Mattress, Look for the Right Firmness Level
When buying a mattress, the right firmness level is especially important. It determines how soft or firm your sleeping surface feels and how well your body is supported. Firm mattresses offer a high degree of stability and are suitable for people who prefer a firm H4 sleeping surface. Medium-firm H3 mattresses are all-around options that adapt to many sleeping habits and are the most commonly sold. Soft H2 mattresses conform more closely to the body and can be more comfortable for side sleepers because they allow the shoulders and hips to sink in deeper.
Which firmness level is right for you also depends on your body weight.
- Firmness levels H2 (soft) & H3 (medium-firm): lighter individuals up to 90 kg
- Firmness level H4 (firm): heavier individuals over 90 kg
With most mattresses, you have to choose a firmness level. With Träumeland mattresses, you can simply flip them over to try a different firmness level.

Consider the sleeping position
When buying a mattress , it is important to consider your sleeping position. Do you mostly sleep on your back, side or stomach? Mattresses that offer good support for the spine are suitable for back sleepers, while side sleepers often benefit from a softer mattress that reduces pressure on the shoulders and hips. Stomach sleepers should look for a slightly firmer mattress to prevent the body from sinking in too deeply. Your sleeping position determines which mattress can offer you the best comfort and support. Make sure that the mattress adapts to your personal needs so that you can sleep restfully every night.
-
Side sleepers: Soft to medium-firm for shoulders/hips
-
Back sleeper: Medium-firm for spinal support
-
Stomach sleeper: Rather firm for a stable position
Shop for Mattresses in Popular Sizes
At Träumeland, you’ll find mattresses in all standard sizes for single and double beds. The most popular mattress size is 90×200 cm. It’s suitable for singles, and when used in pairs, it also fits a 180×200 cm wide double bed. Our Träumeland mattresses come in various sizes; depending on your sleeping habits and space requirements, the following are suitable:
- 80×200 cm mattress, 90×200 cm mattress, and 100×200 cm mattress for single beds
- 140x200 cm mattress for small double beds or people who need plenty of space
- 160x200 cm mattress, 180x200 cm mattress for double beds and couples
Many couples choose two 90x200 cm single mattresses for their double bed to best accommodate different firmness levels or sleeping preferences.
Buy mattresses in special sizes and extra-long lengths
Mattresses should have a little extra space at both the head and foot of the bed. If you’re over 1.80 m tall, an extra-long mattress makes sense. However, most standard bed frames are designed for mattress lengths of 200 cm, and older models are designed for 190 cm.
Cold foam, innerspring, or latex—which mattress is right for you?
Cold foam mattresses are particularly popular because they offer point elasticity, retain their shape well, and are versatile. They conform well to the body and provide comfortable support for various sleeping positions. Spring core mattresses provide good ventilation and a springy feel thanks to their construction. They’re especially suitable for people who sweat at night. Latex mattresses offer an elastic and comfortable sleeping surface. They can be a good choice if you value adaptability and a peaceful sleeping experience.
Mattress Care—How to Care for Your Mattress!
To ensure your mattress lasts a long time, you should flip and rotate it regularly, use a mattress protector, air out your bedroom regularly, and clean stains immediately. This will keep your mattress fresh and comfortable for longer
- Regular Flipping: You should flip your mattress about every 6 months—swapping the head and foot ends—so it wears evenly.
- Wash mattress-covers: For better hygiene—especially if you have allergies—it’s a good idea to wash the covers more often.
- Beat and vacuum the mattress: If you have dust mite allergies, it’s recommended to beat and vacuum the mattress once a month.
Important: A mattress should be replaced after 7–10 years; for particularly high-quality mattresses, the lifespan can of course be longer.

Frequently asked questions about buying a mattress
The right mattress size depends on your height, the space available in your bedroom and your sleeping habits. If you sleep alone, a width of 90 or 100 cm is often sufficient. For couples, 160, 180 or 200 cm is ideal. In terms of length, the mattress should be slightly longer than your height. This gives you enough space to stretch out comfortably. Also make sure that the mattress fits well in your bed frame.
At Träumeland, we also offer a wide range of children's mattresses (90x200 cm) and baby mattresses (70x140 cm and 60x120 cm). If you are looking for a different size, we also offer selected models in special sizes.
There are different types of mattresses, and the choice depends on your personal preferences and sleeping habits. Here are some common mattress types:
Innerspring mattresses: They provide good support and are often inexpensive.
Cold foam mattresses: These are lightweight and offer good point elasticity and lying comfort. Perfect for any sleeping position and, with the right ventilation, ideal for frequent sweaters.
Latex mattresses: They are elastic and adapt well to the body. Particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. The disadvantage here is that they change depending on the season and temperature.
You can find out more about the different types of mattress in our mattress finder.
Our mattresses are rolled and vacuum-packed for transportation reasons. To allow the materials to unfold optimally after unpacking, we recommend that you do not store the mattress in a rolled state for too long.
Our recommendation:
A rolled mattress should be stored in its packaging or rolled state for a maximum of 3 months.
If the mattress is stored for much longer, the foam core may not unfold completely or only very slowly after unpacking. As a result, the mattress may temporarily or permanently not fully regain its original shape.
Our tip:
Open the mattress as soon as possible after purchase and give it sufficient time to fully unfold after unpacking. As a rule, the mattress will reach its final shape within a few days.
