Everything about baby mattresses

When selecting from so many different models, the decision is certainly not easy.
We therefore provide a points system which should facilitate rapid and reliable orientation through our baby mattress range: the more quality points a mattress has, the better. There are a few factors to consider, depending on what you find important: good ventilation, the quality of the mattress cover and core and additional functions.

Here too, the following applies: the more additional functions a baby mattress has, the safer is the sleeping environment.

What makes baby mattresses from Träumeland unique?
You can use the mattress until your child grows out of their cot. The mattresses are suitable for children up to 5 years or with a weight of up to 25 kg.

All covers of Träumeland mattresses (except for our children's and youth mattresses) conform to standards.

In accordance with the current mattress standard, our mattresses have a safety zipper without a zipper so that the child cannot open the cover of the mattress. To open the zipper, a temporary aid (e.g. a paper clip, etc.) must be used.

The length and width may permit a maximum gap of 30 mm between the mattress and the side and end parts.
The baby side is slightly softer than the toddler side. There are labels on them stating 'baby side' or 'toddler side' on the mattress cover and on the mattress core. In this way, you can find the required markings directly on your mattress after washing the cover.
We recommend that you turn the mattress from the baby side onto the toddler side from a weight of approximately 12 kg.

Your mattress has been lovingly rolled, which means the quality of the materials is in no way adversely affected. Once the outer film has been carefully removed, the mattress will ‘plump up’ and its full functionality will unfold in a matter of minutes. The edges of the mattress may take a little longer. Please note that it can take 2-3 days for the mattress core to reach its full volume once removed from its roll packaging. You can use the mattress as normal during this time.

TIP: By rolling the mattresses, we can reduce the transport volume massively, cut CO2 emissions, save packaging material and be kind to our environment.

Above all new mattress cores can emit a new odour which cannot dissipate completely beforehand due to the packaging. The odour is harmless and will have dissipated at the latest two to four weeks after unpacking the mattress. Ideally, ventilate the mattress outside prior to initial use. However, please ensure that the mattress does not become damp and is not exposed to direct sunlight. All our mattress cores are tested multiple times by independent test institutes for harmful substances and are superbly suited for use in baby beds.
Don't worry - a yellow mattress core is completely harmless.
Every foam discolours yellow through exposure to sunlight or artificial light. This is completely harmless and certainly not harmful for your baby.
The covers of our mattresses are quilted with fleece on the inside. After initial use, this fleece loses a little of its volume. If your child always sleeps in the same place on the mattress, a depression may appear to form where its head contacts the mattress. If you lay your child in different places on the mattress, or when the child later moves around more on the mattress, the fleece is compressed across the entire cover, and the "depression" disappears again. This compression of the cover does not represent a disadvantage for your child.

For baby and children's mattresses, a tolerance of -0/+2.5cm applies to both the mattress width and length. The height of the baby mattress must be within the tolerance range of +0/-10mm. For children's and youth mattresses, the tolerance is +/- 10mm.

If the size difference is outside the tolerance range, please contact our customer service.

No. We use a water-based adhesive in the production of our mattress cores; the individual parts would then fall apart.
The baby sleep experts Angelcare and Träumeland have tested all baby mattresses (60x120 and 70x140 cm) from Träumeland. Compatible Träumeland mattresses are marked with a logo on the product (this is also listed on the website under "Certificates")!
No problem - please contact a Träumeland specialist retailer near you or send us a special size request.
A template is required for all mattresses with special dimensions (except square mattresses).
The maximum size for baby mattresses is: 75 x 160 cm

Baby mattresses with Träumeland "sleep safety" or "sleep dry" covers do not require an additional cover for moisture protection, provided the baby is wearing a diaper. These covers have the moisture protection function* integrated in the mattress cover. Additional wetness protection pads not only stop moisture but also ventilation and should therefore not be used.

* Wetness protection means that small amounts of liquid can be absorbed by the cover if, for example, your baby's diaper is too full. Large amounts of liquid cannot be absorbed.

We recommend that you do not use a watertight or air-tight wetness protection cover until after your child has finished wearing nappies. During the initial two years of life, you should certainly never use air-tight materials in a baby bed. A mattress core will sufficiently protected with the Träumeland "sleep safety" and "sleep dry" mattress covers at this age of the child.
A slight discoloration of the foam is completely normal and harmless. It is caused by natural contact with air, light and moisture in daily use and has no influence on the function, safety or quality of the mattress. It is not a quality defect. However, if you would like a new mattress core, please contact us at any time.

Our mattresses are rolled and vacuum-packed for transportation reasons. To allow the materials to unfold optimally after unpacking, we recommend that you do not store the mattress in a rolled state for too long.

Our recommendation:
A rolled mattress should be stored in its packaging or rolled state for a maximum of 3 months.

If the mattress is stored for much longer, the foam core may not unfold completely or only very slowly after unpacking. As a result, the mattress may temporarily or permanently not fully regain its original shape.

Our tip:
Open the mattress as soon as possible after purchase and give it sufficient time to fully unfold after unpacking. As a rule, the mattress will reach its final shape within a few days.

Kid's and youth mattresses

The answer is simple: A child's weight and height is very different from the weight and height of an adult. In addition, growing children have different requirements than adults.
Our youth mattresses are designed for optimum comfort for children. Of course, parents can lie down with their child to help them fall asleep. It is important to ensure that the mattress is turned regularly (head and foot sections) so that the weight distribution is even.

Our children's mattress / youth mattress is suitable from the age of 2 and is suitable for children up to 15 years or up to a body weight of 90 kg or 120 kg.

INFO: Parents can also lie on the mattress with their child to help them fall asleep. It is important that the mattress is turned regularly (head and foot sections) so that the weight load is balanced.

We recommend that you turn the mattress from the soft to the medium-hard side from a weight of approximately 35 kilograms.

Your mattress has been lovingly rolled, which means the quality of the materials is in no way adversely affected. Nursing pillow

Even during pregnancy, a nursing cushion provides support when sitting or lying down, and ensures relaxed sleep. Once baby has finally arrived, it is helpful to apply the baby to the breast for feeding so that you still have at least one hand free.
Our nursing pillows are filled with fine, noiseless EPS beads as these are highly easy-care and also washable. They offer a lot of comfort as they can easily be adapted to your sitting and nursing position.
Our nursing pillows differ regarding their surface: We provide 100 % cotton covers or elastic covers (94 % cotton and 6 % elastane). These are more stretchy due to their elastane content.
The removable cover of Träumeland nursing cushions is washable at 60° degrees. The entire nursing cushion (including the filling) is washable at 40° degrees.

Wetness protection covers

Baby mattresses with Träumeland "sleep safety" or "sleep dry" covers do not require an additional cover for moisture protection, provided the baby is wearing a diaper. These covers have the moisture protection function* integrated in the mattress cover. Additional wetness protection pads not only stop moisture but also ventilation and should therefore not be used.

A mattress core will sufficiently protected with the Träumeland "sleep safety" and "sleep dry" mattress covers at this age of the child.

Duvets and cushion

The numerous duvets available make the choice quite difficult. For the selection of a suitable cover, thermal requirements and the cover and filling materials should primarily be considered.

Material: Covers made of TENCEL™ are well-known for their outstanding moisture management, cotton covers provide good air circulation, down covers are airy and lightweight and special fibre covers are very easy-care.

As long as your baby sleeps in a cradle or bassinet, you can use a cover in the size 80 x 80 cm. If your baby already sleeps in a cot, then the size 100 x 135 cm is suitable.

We recommend our pillows for the following ages:

  • Baby pillows (including pillows from baby sets): from 12 months
  • SABBIA children's pillows & pillows from youth sets: from 2 years
  • Ergo & Ergo Premium children's pillows: from 3 years
A large duvet cover (i. e. 140x200 or 135x200 cm) should be used from the child’s second birthday at the earliest. It is ideal to switch to a large duvet cover as soon as the child moves into the large bed.

We offer our blankets & pillows in two different sizes.

135x200 or 80x80 cm is the standard size in Germany.

140x200 or 70x90 cm is the standard size in Austria.

You can of course also take the 135x200 + 80x80 cm in Austria (and also just as vice versa in Germany), but when buying the bed linen you must then be careful that you get the right size.

Bedding

In order to preserve the colour brilliance of the high-quality prints, please wash the bedclothes inside out, with the zips closed. Use a mild detergent without optical brighteners.

Nest

Our normal cotton bumpers are only suitable for square beds in the sizes 60x120 or 70x140 cm.

Sleeping bags

Sleeping bags are the better alternatives to duvets. Using sleeping bags for babies instead of traditional duvets significantly reduces the risk of heat accumulation or covering your baby. Your baby sleeps more peacefully – they won't wake up because the duvet has disappeared. A sleeping bag also provides the feeling of safety familiar from the womb.

Many parents are a little unsure when it comes to sleepwear. Is the baby too warm or is it freezing? Just as there are hot summer nights and cool winter months outside, there are also temperature differences in the children's room at night. In order to give your little one a restful night's sleep, it is important to adapt the sleepwear optimally. We don't want to make any general statements here. However, one thing is essential: you should not be deceived by the thickness of the sleeping bag material, as the materials have different thermal values.

The unit of measurement "TOG" can be used as a guide. "TOG" shows the thermal resistance of textiles and tells you how warm your baby will be in a sleeping bag at a certain room temperature. The higher the TOG value, the warmer your baby will be. Sleeping bags have different "TOG values". The LIEBMICH sleeping bag has a "TOG value" of 2.5! Sleeping clothes should be adjusted according to the TOG value. Here you will find a corresponding recommendation for orientation:

togwert-table-sleeping-bag
On hot summer days, the inner sleeping bag can be used without the outer sleeping bag. As we have used guide values, you should listen to your gut instinct and feel your baby's neck. Simply imagine you were lying in the sleeping bag! TIP: The LIEBMICH sleeping bag has double ventilation regulation. Both ventilation slits on the sleeping bag can be opened with a zip and allow optimum air flow as needed. As a result, your baby won't overheat.
  • calculate the right size (enough freedom of movement for the legs as well as fit for the head and arm hole)
  • select the right material: TENCEL™ natural fibres ensure significantly more moisture absorption
  • sufficient ventilation to avoid heat accumulation
  • press studs preferred due to the choking hazard of buttons
  • no ribbons and laces
  • a sleeping bag that grows with your child is practical and also saves money
  • all-round zip for easy changing as well as putting your child in the sleeping bag and taking them out
  • low-risk materials to ensure your baby sleeps safe and sound
  • zip with locking mechanism so your baby cannot get trapped and the zip cannot open by itself

The breathing sleeping bag: The double ventilation regulation is a unique feature that every baby would want. Both ventilation slits on the sleeping bag can be opened with a zip and allow optimum air flow as needed. As a result, your baby won't overheat. Just as you like to control the temperature in your bedroom, your baby wants that in the sleeping bag too.

Loving details make the LIEBMICH sleeping bag irresistible!

Use a mild detergent without optical brighteners for washing.

It is possible that our sleeping bags shrink up to 10% during the first wash. This is quite normal for products made of 100% cotton.

Summer sleeping bag

Sleeping bags are to be preferred to blankets as these cannot be kicked off or pulled over the head. In this way, you avoid overheating through heat accumulation and ensure a safe and healthy sleep for your baby.

In order to ensure a pleasant sleeping environment also in summer, the selection of correct sleep clothing is particularly important. However, in addition to reference values, always listen to your gut feeling, and orientate yourself on the ""TOG"" measuring unit. The LIEBMICH summer sleeping bag has a ""TOG value"" of 0.5! This is a reference value and states the thermal resistance of textiles. The higher the ""TOG"" value, the warmer the sleeping bag. All-year round sleeping bags therefore generally feature a ""TOG"" value of 2.5!

In the following table, you will find recommendations for the SUMMER SLEEPING BAG LIEBMICH ("TOG value" = 0.5):

TIP: The LIEBMICH summer sleeping bags TENCEL™, COTTON MUSLIN and COTTON feature a ventilation slit at the foot end which can be opened using a zip. This permits additional ventilation and counters any dangerous heat accumulations.

TOG value table
  • Ensure sufficient freedom of movement for the legs, and a perfect fit around the neckline and armholes so that your baby cannot slip out of the sleeping bag.
  • Select exclusively skin-compatible and lightweight materials
  • Provide sufficient ventilation so that heat accumulation can be avoided
  • Avoid cords and ribbons
  • Make sure that the product has a safety zip so that the baby cannot pinch itself

Sleep overall TO GO

Many parents are a bit confused when it comes to sleepwear. Is the baby too warm or is it freezing? Just as there are hot summer nights and cool winter months outside, there are also temperature differences at night in the nursery. In order to ensure a restful sleep for the offspring, it is important to adjust the sleepwear optimally. We do not want to make any general statements here. However, one thing is essential: you should not be deceived by the thickness of the sleeping bag material, because materials have different thermal values.

The unit of measurement "TOG" can be used as a guide. "TOG" shows the thermal resistance of textiles and informs how warm your baby is in a sleeping bag at a certain room temperature. The higher the "TOG" value, the warmer the baby is. Sleeping bags have different "TOG values". According to the indicated "TOG value" the sleeping clothes should be adjusted. Here you will find a corresponding recommendation for orientation:

Since these are approximate values, you should also listen to your own gut feeling and feel, for example, in the neck of the baby. Just imagine that you re lying in the sleeping bag...! TIP: The sleeping bag has a double adjustable ventilation. The two vents on the sleeping bag can be opened by zippers and allow optimal air supply as needed. Thus, overheating of your baby is counteracted.

Choosing the right size for sleep overall is crucial for safety and comfort. Our footed sleeping bags are available in sizes from 74 cm (for babies from 6 months) to 110 cm (for children up to about 5 years). This ensures that your child can sleep comfortably and move freely. We recommend always choosing a size smaller for sleeping bags with feet, as these tend to be cut larger. However, the following formula can be used as a guide: Your baby's body length - head length + 10 cm = sleeping bag size

Everything about mattresses for adults:

The right mattress size depends on your height, the space available in your bedroom and your sleeping habits. If you sleep alone, a width of 90 or 100 cm is often sufficient. For couples, 160, 180 or 200 cm is ideal. In terms of length, the mattress should be slightly longer than your height. This gives you enough space to stretch out comfortably. Also make sure that the mattress fits well in your bed frame.

At Träumeland, we also offer a wide range of children's mattresses (90x200 cm) and baby mattresses (70x140 cm and 60x120 cm). If you are looking for a different size, we also offer selected models in special sizes.

To look after your mattress properly, you should turn and rotate it regularly, ideally every three months. This helps to distribute wear and tear evenly. Use a mattress protector or topper to protect it from dirt and stains. Air your mattress regularly by steaming it out for a few hours without bedding. Vacuuming helps to remove dust and mites. If stains occur, act quickly and treat them with a mild detergent and a damp cloth. Make sure that the mattress is completely dry before you cover it again. You can find out more about mattress care in our article: Proper mattress care
Remember to replace your mattress every 7 to 10 years. If it looks worn out, you're in pain after sleeping or your sleep is no longer restful, it could be time. A worn or squeaky mattress is also a sign. Changes in sleeping comfort or new allergy symptoms due to old materials are also indications.

There are different types of mattresses, and the choice depends on your personal preferences and sleeping habits. Here are some common mattress types:

Innerspring mattresses: They provide good support and are often inexpensive.

Cold foam mattresses: These are lightweight and offer good point elasticity and lying comfort. Perfect for any sleeping position and, with the right ventilation, ideal for frequent sweaters.

Latex mattresses: They are elastic and adapt well to the body. Particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. The disadvantage here is that they change depending on the season and temperature.

You can find out more about the different types of mattress in our mattress finder.

All Träumeland mattresses are point-elastic cold foam mattresses and have been developed to perfectly support the spine and relieve pressure where it is needed, regardless of your body type or preferred sleeping position. However, if you have problems with your spine, we recommend the Mondsee mattress. It supports the spine and allows the shoulders and pelvis to sink in precisely, thereby relieving them. Find out which mattress is ideal for back pain here: "Which mattress for back pain?"
Spring core and cold foam mattresses are both good mattresses. Cold foam mattresses are very point-elastic and can therefore relieve pressure where it is needed. A cold foam matt ress is the best choice, especially for side sleepers who often suffer from hip pain or whose hands or arms fall asleep. Spring mattresses are usually very firm and offer good support. They score points for good air circulation, but this is due to the amount of metal in the mattress. So if you want to do without metal, we recommend a well-ventilated cold foam mattress. This combines both - good air circulation, which means you sweat less and moisture can be wicked away well, and good pressure distribution.

The right firmness level depends on your body weight, your sleeping position and your personal sleeping comfort. As a rule of thumb, lighter people tend to prefer softer mattresses, heavier people medium-firm to firm mattresses. The decisive factor is that the spine lies straight and the shoulders and pelvis can sink in comfortably. Find out more about firmness here.
